Maurell B. Thurman, 86, died peacefully on July 16, 2008 in Houston, Texas after a brief illness. She was born October 30, 1921 to Archie L. and Eunice Burson in Strong, Arkansas and later moved with her family to Louisiana where she graduated from Central High School near Delhi. She was married to James K. Thurman for twenty-four years, was a resident of Monroe, Louisiana for more than 45 years, and long time member of Parkview Baptist Church in Monroe. She was president and general manager of Thurmanize Cleaners, Inc. in Monroe for 27 years until she retired in 1991. In 2001, she moved to Houston, Texas to be near her son and his family. She was much loved as a daughter, mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her life was centered on her family to whom she was always loving and totally devoted. She is survived by her son Ken Thurman and his wife Linda (Humble, TX); brother Ernest Burson and wife Dorothy (West Monroe, LA); sister Merilyn Chriceol and husband Henry (West Monroe, LA); two granddaughters Laura Wimberly and husband Charlton (Humble, TX) and Lindsay Newcomer and husband Kyle (Bryan, TX); and great-grandson Steven Wimberly (Humble, TX). She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Monroe Burson, Rebern Burson, and Archie Burson, Jr. A memorial service will be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 19th of July, 2008 in the Morrow Chapel at The Settegast-Kopf Co. at Sugar Creek (15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas, 77478, 281-565-5015). Officiating will be Rev. David L. Wakeland, pastor of Southwest Presbyterian Church. Interment will take place in Rosewood Cemetery in Humble, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Maurell’s memory to either Southwest Presbyterian Church’s Building Fund, 6033 South Rice Boulevard, Bellaire, TX 77401or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Houston Gulf Coast Chapter, 2425 Fountainview, Suite 280, Houston, Texas 77057.
