Hickory - Robert Daniel Berryhill passed away on December 13, 2008, after a brief bout with cancer. He was born on December 12, 1921, in Lincoln County. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, and he retired from the Air Force after serving his country for twenty years. He operated Robert’s Garage in Newton and Hickory for many years. He touched the lives of many people.


He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Pearl Leavada Berryhill, and his parents, Daniel and Fannie Crouch Berryhill, and by brothers, Fred Berryhill and Hugh Roy Berryhill, and by sisters, Bessie Canipe, Maudie Massagee, Emma Pruitt, Ruby Brooks, and an infant sister.


He is survived by his daughter of the home, Linda Berryhill Johnson; a son and daughter-in-law of Maine, Robert Allen and Sue Berryhill; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; four siblings, Junie Tuggle, Lula Coley, Richard Berryhill, and Bill Berryhill. He leaves behind many friends and extended family.


The family will receive friends Monday December 15 from 7 until 8:30 PM at Hickory Funeral Home.


The funeral service will be held on Tuesday December 16 at 3:00 PM at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Sammy Kiser officiating. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #48.
