Biography
Strong, George Quentin, 57, of Austin, Tx., formerly of Montgomery, died November 30, 2008 at his home in Austin. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Quentin R. Strong and survived by his mother Doris Strong McCurdy and stepfather Lewis H. McCurdy, Sr. of Lowndesboro; brother Henry Strong (Susan) of Birmingham; sister Elaine Acree (Allen) of Madison; step-brothers Lewis H. McCurdy, Jr. (Nancy) of Huntsville; William McCurdy (Pam) of Lowndesboro; David McCurdy of Pike Road; nephew Whitfield Strong (Heather) of Gardendale and two great nephews Dillon and Reece Strong of Gardendale, aunts and cousins.
Growing up in Montgomery, George was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School where he was a member of the band and the Choralees. George was also a member of the Montgomery Youth Symphony. He was a member of the University of Alabama Million Dollar Band. George held three degrees from the University of Alabama with two degrees in mathematics and a Ph.D in Applied Statistics. As a graduate student, George was a talented and caring teacher of mathematics and statistics. After graduation, George became a biomedical statistician in the pharmaceutical industry where he worked for a number of different pharmaceutical companies and research organizations. George leaves behind a large circle of caring family and friends.
Pallbearers are Whitfield Strong, Allen Acree, Lewis H. McCurdy, Jr., William McCurdy, David McCurdy, and Edd Mansfield.
Funeral services will be at White Chapel~Greenwood Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2008 with Rev. Ron Carlton officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.
