Biography
James B. "Jimmy" Currie, 64, died Saturday, September 8, 2007, in a local hospital.
He was a native of Orange, Texas and had been a resident of the Sulphur area for the last 50 years. He was a 1961 graduate of Sulphur High School. Mr. Currie had played three years of professional baseball, the last team being the Chicago White Sox, and played many years of fast pitch softball also. He retired as an Equipment Operator from Vista Chemical Company after 25 years of service. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golf, fishing, horseback riding, and watching football. He will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Nell J. Currie of Carlyss; three daughters, Tanya Williams and husband, Mike of Lake Charles, Kellie Couvillion and husband, Bobby of Lake Charles, and Nicole Sellers and husband, Garon of Hackberry; three sisters, Pansy Oberly of Willis, Texas, and Margaret Entis and Pawnee Cody of Spring, Texas; and seven grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Mable Currie.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Pastor Rick McClain will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss. Visitation is from 4-9 p.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday in the funeral home.
