Biography

Louwrens "Scott" Elzinga passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the family farm in Chilliwack, BC at the tender age of 18.

Scott will be missed by his parents, Bouwe and Patt, sisters, Hannah (Matt), Shanine (Chris) and Heidi (Tyler); Grandpa and Grandma Kieneker; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Also left to remember Scott are his many friends and the people who’s lives he touched. He is greeted in Heaven with open arms by his saviour Jesus Christ, Oma and Opa Elzinga, Grandma Kieneker and his cousins, Sheri-lyse and Shane.

We are sad, but thankful for everything he has meant to us, for his life that was full of love for his family, his friends and his God.

Scott was born in Maple Ridge on September 14, 1990 to Bouwe and Patt Elzinga, following his three older sisters, Hannah, Shanine and Heidi.
Though he was the baby of the family, he grew up to be the largest of the bunch, our gentle giant.

Scott loved sports, excelling in basketball and soccer; this year playing for Columbia Bible College and coaching the Junior Girls Basketball team at Unity Christian School. He played hard and he reaped the rewards. He was a team player, an encourager and a bright light on every team he played with. One of his coaches said this about Scott~ “Scott exemplified the vision we had for our players- becoming a man that was built for others- a man who pursued God’s purpose for his life- we will be remembering Scott and we will celebrate his life by committing again to ‘bring all our talents all the time’”

Scott loved the colour orange, the Dutch national colour, in honour of his Dutch heritage. He had an orange room and sported orange jerseys, hoodies etc…

Scott loved his Lord, Jesus. He refused to compromise his beliefs and stood strong in the face of temptations.

He has been born into Heaven, joining many loved ones already there.
We imagine him showing them all the latest technology such as texting and guitar hero. We visualize him playing in the Rock band with his cousins Sheri and Shane who predeceased him, with the older relatives looking on. We take comfort and great hope from knowing he is safe in the presence of Jesus.

A visitation and signing of the casket for family and friends was held on Thursday, May 28th 2009 at 7:30 – 9:00 pm at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home 45865 Hocking Ave. Chilliwack. Interment will take place on Friday, May 29th, 2009 at 10:30 am at Vedderview Gardens Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:30 pm at First Avenue Christian Assembly, 46510 First Ave. Chilliwack.

Pall bearers will be Matt Zacharias, Chris Spletzer, Tyler Evans, Dylan Niezen, Elijah Nakagawa and Justin Thoutenhoofd with Ron Dyck and Dave Klassen as honourary pall bearers.
