Mr. Robert “Turner” Middleton, age 84, of 4609 Old Black Bluffs Road, Rome, GA died Saturday, August 6, 2005, at his residence.

Mr. Middleton was born in Floyd County on August 29, 1920, the son of the late Bob and Willie Mae Huckaby Middleton. He spent most of his life in the Foster Mill Community and was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Middleton was in the United States Army having served in World War II. He retired from Trend Mills and prior had worked with General Motors and Floyd County Public Works. Mr. Middleton enjoyed working in his garden and in his pumpkin patch.

Mr. Middleton is survived by his wife, Ruby Yarbrough to whom he was married on June 7, 1947; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Steve) and Suzanne Middleton of Rome; one daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Charlie Carney of Rome; five grandchildren, Lorie Mathis of Trion, GA, Angel Gaddis of Rome, Leigh Middleton Langford of Rome, Robert Justin Middleton of Rome and Stephen “Wright” Middleton of Rome; 6 great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Hill of Trion, GA, Chris Hill of Trion, GA, Tyler Tolbert of Rome, Tori Gaddis of Rome, Carson Turner Gaddis of Rome and Ayden Smith of Rome; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Harvey Dempsey of Rome and Dorothy (Dot) and Connor White of Cave Spring, GA.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at 2:00 P.M. at Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Rev. David Davis and Rev. Michael Manning officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard in charge of full military graveside rites. Mr. Middleton will lie-in-state at Cedar Creek Baptist Church from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Mr. Middleton will remain at the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 P.M. till 9:00 P.M. and at other hours will be at sister’s residence, 4575 Old Blacks Bluff Road, Rome, GA.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at Cedar Creek Baptist Church at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday: Hugh Terry, Ned Middleton, Rev. Marvin Jackson, Scott Couey, Doug Couey, Denny Folsom, and Gerald Terry. Honorary pallbearers will be Cedar Creek Baptist Church’s men class, D.L. Shields, and Hershel Wright.
