Mrs. Sara Jo Long, age 90, formerly of 4832 Calhoun Road, Rome passed away on Monday, October 09, 2006 at a local medical center.

Mrs. Long was born in Floyd County on April 28, 1916, the daughter of the late Thomas Elias Evans and Mae Pettett Evans. She had lived all her life in Floyd County and attended Shannon Church of God. She worked at Astro Dye Company as a winder until her retirement in 1978. Mrs. Long loved to watch the Braves play baseball and going to yard sales. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Thomas Olin Evans and J.W. Evans.

Survivors include her daughter and son in-law, Judy and Hugh Early of Rome; a special friend, Mrs. Esthus Holt; one niece, Glenda Phillips and one nephew, Gary Evans also survive.

Graveside services for Mrs. Long will be held Wednesday at 3:00 pm at the East View Cemetery in Adairsville, GA with Mr. Richard Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 pm. At other hours the family may be contacted at the daughters’ residence, 111 Gray Rock Drive, Rome.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home Wednesday by 2:00 pm and include, Wendell Early, David Evans, Ken Bruce, Melvin Phillips, Frankie Beck, Henry Brooks, Billy Hardin and Bobby Momon. Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Harris, Leroy Bailey, Henry Brownlow and Vernon Early.

The Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home has charge of the services for Mrs. Sara Jo Long.
