Dear Mr. Payne and family,
Mrs. Sara Payne was not only my educator, she was my friend. Her daily life lived before her students taught lessons of grace and dignity. Her praise was frequent but when needed, her reprimands were just and pure of heart. Students felt secure and loved by Mr. and Mrs. Payne.
After Tom and I married, Mr. and Mrs. Payne greeted him by name and Tom became a new fan.
Mrs. Payne will be missed but never forgotten by those that knew and loved her best. Thank you both for giving your lives and careers to educate children.

Just want to send my love, prayers, and thoughts to each of you. What a joy to view the pictures of her slideshow....a very beautiful life of memories.

May God's comfort be with you in this loss,

Melanie

Message by Your friend and fellow educator and former student, Juanita Cordle - July 19, 2006

Dear Mr. Payne and all the family,

For most of my life I have been associated with the Payne family. My first association was at Alto Park. Mr. Payne, you were my principal there, and Mrs. Payne, the librarian. I was so lucky to have had such good role models. Next, on to Coosa High. There I shared classes with Carol. If my memory serves me right we were in Senor Morales's Spanish class. I knew James then, but he was just the younger brother at that point! And, of course, Mr. Payne, you came to Coosa to be my principal once again! Recently, I've had the great honor of seeing you, Mr. Payne, and your lovely wife Sara at the retired teachers' luncheons. I certainly enjoyed having the opportunity to speak to you both. I have also enjoyed being a part of a wonderful church family that includes James and his family. Finally, last but never least is my friendship, beginning at the Vitality Center, with the bubbly and ever-smiling Sarah. I have been very blessed in knowing the entire Payne family over the course of my life, so it is with great pride that I pay tribute to a lovely mother, citizen, and educator.
