Message by Program Assistant for Unit 408 - April 5, 2006

Maurice was compassionate with the patients of Unit 408. His desire to "get through" to the patients drove him. He use to say, "If I can just get through to one of them, it will make everything worth it."

He loved Jeannie and Nikki as well as Pike and Jacobe. Everything he did, was done to make life better for them. When he spoke of his family, his eyes lit up and his face glowed. There was never a doubt where his heart was...

Maurice, was a member of "our family" at unit 408. He was a dedicated Charge Nurse and was admired for his drive. He tried to find the positive in most everything. He loved his co-workers and was always surprizing them with treats (sausage biscuits, doughnuts, home-made chili). He made us laugh so many times with his quick wit...and his willingness to learn new things (Spanish).

I can't believe you are gone...I love you Maurice. I will miss you greatly. Thank you my friend...for touching my life!

I was the psychiatrist who worked on the unit with Maurice a couple of years ago.
Something in me just sort of brightened around him. I was always just glad to see him, to be in his presence. He was a kind person and often made special effort to help patients and the people he worked with.
Maurice, I am so glad that I got to see you recently when I was on the unit for a moment. I will miss those moments of just suddenly seeing you and just feeling happy to be in your presence, your light. Thank-you Maurice, and God bless you.
With love, Debra Cannon.

Dear Jeannie, Niki and Family:
Let me first say how sad we are over Maurice's home-going. I keep hearing the news about him and it just doesn't seem real to any of us here on campus. We feel such a HOLE in the Family of NWGRH right now, without Maurice here. He was a pillar of strength to us all whenever we came in contact with him. He loved you all and took great pleasure in speaking of you all the time. My prayer is that you will gather strength from all the precious memories of Maurice, as well as those who loved him too. We'll NEVER forget him. My heart hurts with you. God Bless You All...
