Searching and Viewing Life Stories
  • You can search for the person you’re looking for by typing in their last name in the search field located in the upper right hand corner of the MeM homepage. If you would like to do a more specific search, click on Advanced Search and type in the appropriate information.

  • The most common reason people can’t find the life story they are looking for is because it was a short-term publication and it has expired. Another reason you may not be able to find the life story you are looking for is if the person in charge of the site has temporarily unpublished it. Also make sure you have the correct spelling. If you are unsure of the spelling, try typing just the first few letters of the last name.

  • MeM strives to make its site usable by the widest range of viewers, and our website should be accessible with any browser. For the best experience, however, we recommend that you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. If you are using an older version of this browser, you can download upgrades.

Guest Book messages and Comments
  • Simply click on the "Send Message" button while on any page of your loved one’s life story. (Please note that not all MeM products allow messages to be published on the website.) This will take you to a page where you can type a guest book message. After entering your name, email address, and message, click the "Submit for Approval" button. Your message will be sent to MeM to be forwarded to the family, and if it is a product that allows for message publication (Check the product features chart), the family may approve the guest book entry to be published on the website.

If you have submitted a message but have not seen it published at the site, keep in mind that it may take some time for the family to review the message and provide authorization for publication.
  • There are a few reasons depending upon the type of product. Some of our short-term publications do not show messages that have been submitted to the site, rather they are given directly to the family. Messages submitted to published sites are not usually published immediately and must be approved by the family before posting, so it may take a few days before they can be seen by visitors.

The product type can be found listed on the top of a life story.
  • Once a message has been submitted, it can only be changed by the person in charge of the life story or MeM.
  • If you are the family member in charge of the Life Story and have created your members account, log into your account, go to the edit area of your life story and click on the Guest Book tab. In the Sort Messages area, select View New Messages. When the new messages appear, click on the name to read the message, make any changes, and then click save. To publish the message, click the drop down menu in the Status column and select Publish. If you would like to keep the message, but not publish it to the web, select Hold.
  • Information in our site typically comes directly from the organization or family member that arranged for a product, such as an Everlasting Memorial, to be created. Since we are not the originating source, we do not make changes, but will forward the suggestion to the person in charge of the life story. The easiest way to notify us of a suggestion is to complete our Contact Form.

Member Questions
  • You become a member when you purchase one of our full-featured products. A member is the person or organization that creates a username and password and manages the account for the product they purchased. You do not have to be a member in order to view a life story.
  • Unless otherwise indicated, there are no annual fees for MeM long-term products; the only cost is the initial price of the product you purchase. MeM has established a Care & Maintenance Fund to protect your loved one’s life story for years to come. A portion of every sale is allocated to this fund.
  • To have your life story considered for the featured life story, contact us at MeM by either completing a Contact Form. Be sure to tell us your name, the name of your life story, and your preference for dates. Requests are filled on a first come basis.
  • It depends on the type of product. MeM Announcements only appear on the site for 90 days from the date of entry. Everlasting Memorials and Lifelong MeMories have no set expiration limitations, although we reserve the right to change the future availability and pricing of products and services relating to previously posted materials. Any consumer that is concerned about the longevity of content can print the Memorial at any time or purchase a MeM Moving Memories™ DVD of their loved one. Other MeM products may be published for different lengths of time.
Login Information
  • You should receive a Confirmation Number from MeM shortly after your purchase that you use to set up your account in the Members area of our website. In the New Members area, type in the Confirmation Number, review, then check the Terms of Service box, and click Submit. This will take you to a screen where you can set up your account by creating a username and password. Make sure you record your username and password exactly how you created them because they are both case sensitive and therefore you must include all spaces and capital letters when logging in.
  • The Confirmation Number is located in either the online confirmation/receipt, or the letter you received after purchasing one of our products. If you have misplaced this or haven’t received your letter, you can also get your Confirmation Number by filling out the Contact Form.
  • Go to the Members area of our website and type in the username and password you created. Be sure to enter your username and password exactly how they were created because they are case and space sensitive and therefore must include exactly the same spaces and letters when logging in.
  • If you’ve forgotten your username or password, simply go the Members page at www.mem.com/members and follow the link under "Forgot your username or password?" If you have forgotten both, you will need to use your Confirmation Number, or e-mail address to retrieve your username. You will need your username to retrieve your password. The requested information will be sent to the e-mail address listed for the account. If you have any other difficulties or do not have your Confirmation Number you may contact us by filling out our Contact Form.
Creating a Life Story
  • We recommend that you use a computer with at least a Windows 98 operating system or newer and use Internet Explorer version 6. If you will be scanning pictures into the site, you will also need a scanner that is TWAIN compliant in order to use our automated image management tool we call "Slap-N-Scan™".
  • If you purchased a product through one of our affiliates, you may be sent an introductory letter with instructions, which will explain how to create an account at MeM and provide tools to assist with creating and publishing your own site.
    • Once you are logged into your account, go the edit area of your life story. Click on the Biography tab ,where you will see the text box area to enter life story information. We recommend that you type and save the life story in a word processing program, such as Microsoft Word first and then Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) it into the Biography text box and click save at the bottom of the page.
    • Once you are logged into your account, click on the photos tab to add photos and other images to your life story. You will be prompted to download three Active-X controls necessary for the system to work. You will see three security warning windows. Please click "yes" on each one. This is only required the first time you enter the Image Management area on a computer and they will not harm your computer.
    • You may add additional photos to your life story for $5 a photo. To purchase the extra space, complete our Contact Form.
    • Once you are logged into your account, go to the edit area of your life story and click on the blue Guest Book tab. In the Sort Messages area, select View New Messages. When the new messages appear, click on the name to read the messages, make any changes, and then click save. To publish the message, click the drop down menu in the Status column and select Publish. If you would like to keep the message, but not publish it to the web, select Hold.
    • The biography or guest book sections of the MeM site can handle a variety of written languages, including Spanish and French. If you are having trouble adding a biography or guest book message in a language other than English, feel free to contact MeM Customer Service via our Contact Form.
MeM Movie Questions
  • In an effort to provide the best possible viewing experience for watching a MeM movie, we recommend that you have a PC with a minimum of an 800 MHz Pentium III processor, 128 MB RAM, sound card, and a high-speed internet connection for optimal viewing. We also recommend viewing the movie at a resolution of 800 X 600 or higher. If you have a computer that does not meet one or all of these requirements, you may still be able to view the movie, but it may not play properly and may take longer to load.
  • The Movie is automatically generated with default settings when photos are added to a life story. If you are the person in charge of the life story, then you can login to your member account, click the Movie tab, and adjust the available preferences (i.e. length of picture display, music choice, introduction and/or ending, etc.) for the movie.
  • The Slide Show is a simple slide presentation of the images in the life story and does not include music. The Movie is a multimedia presentation of the images with a musical background.
  • When you are viewing a Movie that plays in a separate window, make sure that the volume on your computer and/or speakers is turned up. If you have external speakers, make sure they are on and plugged in. If you are viewing a Movie that is part of an MeM Announcement and plays in the same window, you will not hear music because this movie and MeM Announcement are complimentary products and do not feature music at this time.
  • Yes, there a few ways to get a copy of the movie on DVD or VHS. You may contact the location where the life story was created and request a copy from them. If they cannot provide you with a copy, you may order one online from the MeM site.
  • The Slide Show is a feature that presents the images only and does not include music.
  • Make sure you are playing the movie from Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. Other browsers, such as AOL or Netscape, may have trouble playing the movie.
  • If you cannot play the movie when you click the Play Movie button, then you may not have the correct browser plug-in software or the correct browser and plug-in versions installed on your computer. Use this link to do a check for the software: www.mem.com/avcheck.asp. If you have the correct version of Flash installed on your computer, then you should check to see if you have pop-up blocker software on your computer. If so, some pop-up blockers will prevent the movie from playing. Also note that the movie was designed to play on PC platforms and Macintosh users may experience difficulties viewing the movie.

  • Ocassionally, the person in charge of a Life Story may choose to limit the publication of a site as Private for privacy reasons. A password is required to view these protected areas.
