Joe M. "Byrd" Garcia of Alamogordo, New Mexico, died Sunday, November 7, 2004 in Alamogordo.
Mr. Garcia was born January 1, 1951 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and was a lifelong resident of Alamogordo. He attended Alamogordo High School and graduated from Granite Computer Institute. He was the owner of Byrd's Skate Shop from 1982 to 1998. He was employed at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Travel Center as a surveillance agent and administrative assistant.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Louanne Garcia of the family home; a son, Jeremy Garcia and his wife Dacia of Alamogordo; a daughter, Larissa Garcia of Alamogordo; a granddaughter, Abrianna Garcia of Alamogordo; his father, Guadalupe Garcia, Sr. and his wife Lydia of Alamogordo; four sisters, Christine Armenta and her husband Adolpho of Corpus Christi, Gracie Garcia of Alamogordo, Carrie Majors and her husband Jeff of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Marianne Garcia and her husband Elias of Corpus Christi; six brothers, Guadalupe Garcia, Jr. and his wife Lola of Alamogordo, David Garcia and his wife Ana of Corpus Christi, Gilbert Garcia of Alamogordo, Albert Botello and Gilbert Botello of Robstown, Texas, and Romeo Botello of Corpus Christi; his father-in-law, Roy Overton of Orogrande; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolina Botello; a brother, Robert Garcia; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Olinger.
Pallbearers will be Guadalupe Garcia, Jr., Gilbert Garcia, Ricardo Chavez, Josh Szwaczkowski, Daniel Szwaczkowski, Richard Martinez, Sonny Hansen and Hal Walker. Honorary bearers will be Frank Sayger, Blair Amstutz and David Garcia.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Indian Wells Road and Cuba Ave., with Pastor Rick Schulze officiating. Friends may call this evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
